Cariboo Cougars stop Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in major midget championship match

The top two teams in the BC Major Midget Hockey League clashed in a best-of-three series.

The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds came up short in their bid for a second straight B.C. Major Midget Hockey League championship.

The T-Birds fell to the Cariboo Cougars in a best-of-three series that was held last weekend in Abbotsford.

The Cougars took game one by a 3-0 score Friday at the MSA Arena and claimed the title with an 8-2 win Saturday.

Chilliwack’s Gerrit Lindhout collected an assist on one of the Fraser Valley goals, capping off a solid playoff run that saw the forward explode for six points and 10 penalty minutes in six games. Lindhout had six goals and 14 points in 38 regular season games.

Chilliwack’s Zack Feaver and Jackson Mainse each had one assist in the postseason and both enjoyed productive seasons overall. Feaver tallied 12 goals and 28 points in 27 games while Mainse was the third highest scoring defenceman in the entire league with six goals and 32 points in 39 games.
