Team Cariboo Fire Centre went unbeaten late last month during a Williams Lake Men’s Basketball League tournament at Thompson Rivers University.
CFC finished with four wins and no losses, beating Williams Lake Blue in the final, 82-46, and handing them their first defeat in the process.
Harrison Stupic dropped 27 points for the CFC in the final to lead all scorers, while Kolby Taylor knocked down 15 of his own for WL Blue.
“The final game was a battle between the undefeated teams but, after being tied at six, CFC went on a 14-0 run and WL Blue never got closer than 10 the rest of the way,” said tournament organizer Martin Kruus. “CFC shot eight for 12 from the charity stripe and hit 10 three pointers. They were clearly the outstanding team of the tournament.”
Other teams in the tournament included 100 Mile House Gold, Williams Lake Red and Golden Black. In total, nine games were played throughout the weekend in a five-team round robin.
“We were happy to stage it and had more than 40 players participate,” Kruus said. “There were no serious injuries or incidents. Hopefully, it leads to more regional co-ordination between players and teams.”
The following are the final scores and high scorers from each of the nine games played:
