A timing board was set up so skiers could record their own times. Savannah Robinson, who competes in biathlon as well, got a chance to test her skiing power. She came in second in the 20km classic race. (Cassidy Dankochik Photo - Quesnel Cariboo Observer)

Cariboo Ski Touring Club ‘So-Lo-Ppet’ results

The Quesnel cross-country skiing group was forced to change because of COVID

  • Feb. 25, 2021 12:00 a.m.

The results are in for the Cariboo Ski Touring Club’s 2021 open race.

The club called it a so-lo-ppet, as individual skiers recorded their own times at the starting line. Nearly 100 people competed over two days in 10 – 30 km races in both classic and skate style skiing. The changes were forced due to public health guidelines.

“It was difficult to read some results, some math was questionable, a lot of people skipped the math and maybe sometimes we were guessing but it is an unofficial race afterall,” a Facebook post from the centre reads. “We do apologize if we made any errors.”

The centre reported the top five finishers in each category with their times.

“Congratulations to everyone who participated and especially some who challenged themselves to long distances – there were even a couple of people who were first time skiers this year skiing 20km,” the centre noted.

They also thanked Brian Black for setting up the course, Greg Strebel for setting up the timing clock and Graham Balkwill for helping compile the results.
