Carihi’s senior boys basketball team let their visitors from Alberni District back in the second quarter but that was as close as things got Tuesday night.
The Tyees had jumped out to a strong 27-15 lead after the first 10 minutes of play. Some costly Carihi turnovers in the second quarter though let Alberni cut the gap, with the two teams nearly switching scoring totals. Alberni put up 27 to Carihi’s 16, giving the locals a 43-42 at the half.
Carihi took command after the break though, using dribble-penetration to rack up points and get to the free throw line. After three, they were up by 14, and in the fourth quarter they expanded their lead to finish with a 93-73 win.
Connor Hall paced the Tyee offence with 37 points, while Laine Rodgers added 14, a dozen of which came in the second half. Carson Foy and Nicholas Gatzke each tallied 13 points for Carihi.
Gredy Barney led the visitors with 31 points.
