The Castlegar Wicked Co-ed Broomball team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada to play in the 11th annual Sin City Showdown on September 13 – 14.
Six teams came from Minnesota, Alta. and B.C. to participate.
Game one was a battle of Western Canada as Castlegar took on Lethbridge.
Lethbridge struck first but Castlegar battled back with goals from Chris Bullock and Luke Kennedy and took a 2 – 1 lead going into the final minutes of the game. Lethbridge scored to tie it and won the game 3 – 2 in overtime.
Game two saw Castlegar take on the Lucid team from Minnesota.
Lucid are the 2013 USA Broomball Co-ed National Champions. Castlegar battled hard but lost to a dominating Lucid team 7 – 1. The lone goal came from Bullock on a pass from Kennedy.
Game three quarter-final game took place on Saturday morning with the Brewsers from Broomball Town USA, Minn.
In one of the better played games of the weekend for Wicked, Castlegar struck first with a breakaway goal from Joel Audet. Unfortunately, it would be the only goal as Castlegar fell 4 – 1.
Even though the team finished 0 – 3, Castlegar Wicked came away with game experience which will help them in their next tournament in Calgary December 6 – 8.
The team is also looking at representing B.C. in the Canadian Nationals in Calgary in April, 2013.
