A local golfer has claimed his third victory on the West Kootenay Junior Golf Circuit.
Ely Overennay, 16, from Castlegar once again took first place at the fourth event of the Zone 1 West Kootenay Junior Golf Circuit at Redstone Resort on Saturday. He shot 82 on the par 72 course, out-shooting Nic Jenner, 14, by two strokes.
Overennay placed first at the opening event of the circuit in April, and at the second event played in Castlegar. He took second in the third event of the circuit, losing out to Brayden McKay of Rossland in a playoff after they both shot 69.
As usual, Overennay was very humble about his victory.
“I didn’t play very good, but I’m happy that I won,” he said. “It was fun.”
The fourth event of the circuit also saw some younger golfers take to the greens. Finlay Smith and Adrian Roberts, both eight year olds from Rossland, played the front nine. They are the youngest golfers to participate so far this season.
Any golfers 18 years old or younger are welcome to play in the next event at Champion Lake on Saturday, May 21 at noon. To register, contact Colin Overennay at zone1juniorgolf@gmail.com or 250-304-8913.
