A local player continues to perform well on the Zone 1 West Kootenay Junior Golf Circuit.
Ely Overennay won his second straight overall low gross at the second event of the circuit played at Castlegar Golf Club on Sunday, April 25. He shot a 74. At the third event, played at Christina Lake on Saturday, Overennay went head to head with Brayden McKay of Rossland after they both shot 69 during regular play. Ultimately it was McKay who won the event, making a par on the first playoff hole, and Overennay took first low gross in the 15-18 age category.
A Castlegar player also finished second overall at the Castlegar event. Nic Jenner shot 81, and also won first low gross in his age category (13 to 14-year-olds). AJ Roberts of Castlegar took second place in the same category shooting 102.
In the 15-16 age category, Aidan Browell of Fruitvale won low gross.
Xander Bankes of Rossland was the only golfer in the under 12 category, and shot a 94 — the fourth lowest score of the day.
A total of 12 players — two girls and ten boys — participated in the event, sticking it out in the rain.
Jenner also took first low gross in his age category at Christina Lake (this time age 14 and under), shooting 79. Second low gross in the same age group went to Bankes, who shot 83.
Second low gross in the 15-18 age category went Browell, who shot a 76.
