Castlegar Rebels keep playoff hopes alive despite losses

Despite losing four of their last five games, the Castlegar Rebels’ playoff hopes are still alive.

The Rebels’ record of 9-18-0-6 has them tied with Grand Forks for fourth in the KIJHL’s Neil Murdoch Division, but the Rebels have five games in hand on the Bruins.

Griffen Ryden scored twice as Castlegar beat Grand Forks 6-2 at home on Friday. Colby Winia, Jaedon Little, Josh Wiens, and Luke Doyle each had two points and Dawson Rattai made 22 saves.

On Saturday, the Rebels fell 3-1 in Fernie. Tyson Soobotin had the lone Rebels goal while Rattai stopped 40 of the 42 shots he faced.

The Rebels headed into the Christmas break on a three-game losing street, following back-to-back 3-2 overtime losses against Nelson and Beaver Valley, plus another 4-2 loss to Beaver Valley.

The Rebels’ have a chance at revenge when they visit the Nitehawks on Friday, followed by a home date against the same team on Jan. 17.

Justin Duguay tops the team in goals with 12 and Little has the lead in assists with 22.
