The Castlegar Rebels had a bit of a break after their loss against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks on Jan. 9 and won’t play their next game until Friday night — but in the meantime, they’ve been busy practising.
The team is on a three-game losing streak, but before that had won 14 consecutive games.
Asked about the team’s strategy over the break, assistant coach Angus Campbell said, “[It’s] just to keep working hard. I thought we’d been playing really well. Some bounces just don’t go your way, but you just gotta keep on it and stay positive.”
He said that over the break the team would be going back to the basics with the system.
“Just kind of taking it day by day,” said Campbell.
The team continues to work on its power play as well.
“It’s been getting better. We’ve just got to keep moving the puck quick, getting shots on net and it will all fall into place,” said Campbell.
The Rebels are sitting in second place in the Neil Murdoch Division of the KIJHL — two points behind the Nelson Leafs who have played two fewer games than the Rebels.
The Castlegar team’s next game is Friday in Grand Forks at 7 p.m. against the Grand Forks Border Bruins.
The Rebels are 5-0 against the Bruins for the season.
The team’s next home game is Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Castlegar Complex.
The Rebels will face the Fernie Ghostriders and are 1-1 against them for the season.
