Cats finish fourth in Keystone

A storm swamped the Peninsula Panthers leaving them fourth best in the west.

The local Junior B hockey club edged the Pilot Butte Storm in the first round-robin game of the Keystone Cup, Western Canadian championships in Alberta. They won 1-0 with the lone goal coming from Brandon Egli.

They dropped the next game 6-2 to the host Sherwood Park Knights, who would go on to win second place. Trevor Yee and Evan Campbell scored.

Next up they lost to eventual Keystone Cup winners Blackfalds Ford Wranglers 7-6. They finished the first tied at one with a Panther goal from Kurtis Rumenovich. The second showed back-and-forth scoring with goals from Densmore, Egli, Campbell and Kyle Peterson. Bradley Dick scored with just a minute left in the third to bring the Panthers to a heartbreaking loss.

The Panthers beat the Arborg Ice Dawgs 8-3 to finish round-robin. Kyle Peterson started the scoring five minutes into the game, with two responding goals for Arborg. The Panthers answered with goals from Ryan Reynolds and Kyle Peterson. The third frame was all Peninsula, with goals from Evan Campbell (2), Kyle Peterson, Cole Peterson and Tyler Porteous.

The Cats dropped their rematch with the Storm in the bronze medal game 5-3. Josh Bloomenthal scored twice and Kyle Peterson once.
