The past week saw the Grumpy Grizzlies from Revelstoke make their way to Chase and in the process claim a 7-2 victory.
The first day of February saw a well-played contest between two division rivals. For the Heat, Jared Seutter in the second and Derek Miskiman in the third tallied, while Russell Sanderson went the distance in goal. The Grizzlies are breathing down the necks of the front-running Kamloops Storm.
On Friday, the Heat headed off on the bus to meet the Osoyoos Coyotes. The desert dogs scored four unanswered goals in the first, the second went scoreless and in the third Kurtis Johnson scored on a penalty shot. Lots of sin bin activity in this one with the Heat unable to score with the man advantage. Jacob Mattes stopped all but four of the 45 bullets fired his way.
Saturday night the Heat, who slept over in Penticton, faced the Posse in Princeton. No scoring in the first, three for Princeton in the second with the Heat pocketing two, and in the third the two teams exchanged a goal apiece. Not enough on this evening as Princeton skated away with a 4-3 victory. Johnson, Seutter and Kevin Leschuk tallied for Chase with Mattes stopping 20 of 24. No change in the standings for the Heat but a decent week of hard work.
Coming up is an away game in Armstrong on Wednesday (after press time) followed by home-and-away with the Sicamous Eagles – home tonight, Feb.10.
Two weeks left of hockey action and the season is over. The Heat Awards Banquet goes Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chase Community Hall for $25. There will be a fundraising dance at the Chase Community Hall on March 3, where you can dance your feet off to the smooth sounds of Sly Valley.
