The Valley Wood Remanufacturing Vipers bowed 9-4 to the Coquitlam Chiefs to open their home Atom Rep hockey tournament Friday afternoon at Civic Arena.
The Vipers and Chiefs went back and forth the entire game with great plays at both ends of the rink. However, the Snakes fell apart late in the game and surrendered four goals in the last two minutes.
The Vipers were led offensively by Jace Weir (1+2), Cash Anderson (1+1), Erik Pastro and Austin Roest. Colten Colmorgen took the loss.
In Pee Wee Tier 1 play Friday, the Watkin Motors Mustangs opened the Darcy Robinson Memorial Tournament in Kamloops with a 7-3 win over the Kamloops Blazers.
Vernon played hard in front of Cayden Hamming, with goals from Trevor Kennedy, Steel Quiring, Lucas Zubrod, Cole Boyarski, Scott Gilowski, Connor Elliott and Cam Moger. Assists went to Nick Teale, Ben Imrich, Boyarski and Jacob Boden, with two.
The Vipers fell 5-3 to the Kelowna Rockets that night, with Kobe Grant solid in the loss.
Boyarski supplied a pair of goals while Kennedy chipped in with one goal and two helpers. Teale, Moger and Gilowski each added an assist each. Brayden McAmmond had a strong game.
Vernon faced Prince George and Ridge Meadows Saturday.
