One night after getting burned for three power-play goals, the Langley Chiefs shored up their penalty kill, blanking all five Alberni Valley opportunities in game two.And the end result was a 3-1 victory on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre and a 2-0 series lead over the Bulldogs in the BCHL Coastal Conference best-of-seven playoff series.Tim Daly and Josh Myers scored in the first period, and after Brandon Adams cut the lead in half early in the second, Darnell Dyck restored the two-goal advantage.That was all the offence, as goaltenders Wyatt Galley (Langley) and Frank Slubowski (Alberni Valley) put on a show, stopping 38 and 34 shots, respectively.The series switches to Port Alberni for games three and four on Monday (Feb. 28) and Tuesday.If necessary, the teams would return to Langley on Thursday for game five.In Friday night’s first game of the series, the Chiefs needed overtime to secure a 5-4 victory, with captain Trevor Gerling potting his second of the night with less than four minutes remaining in the first overtime period.Gerling also opened the scoring, and Kevin Tuohy doubled the lead 74 seconds later in the middle frame.Justin Morello got Alberni Valley on the board shortly after, but Kody Dhaliwal restored the two-goal advantage before the period finished.The Bulldogs cut the lead back to within a goal on a score from Dylan Nowakoski, but the Chiefs had an answer, as Josh Hansen banked the puck in from the side of the net 41 seconds later.Alberni Valley forced overtime thanks to some Langley penalty troubles, getting goals from Casey Bailey and Connor Varley 3:14 apart.Wyatt Galley finished with 40 saves as the Bulldogs outshot the Chiefs 44-34.Alberni Valley was 3-for-4 with the man advantage and Langley was 2-for-5.The Bulldogs were led by Bailey, Varley and Nowakoski, who each had a goal and two assists. But in game two, the Chiefs shut down Alberni Valley’s top line, holding the trio to zero points.Gerling, Dhaliwal and Mike Tebbutt (two assists) each had two points for Langley in game one.
