Chilliwack Basketball Club stays hot with back-to-back wins

The team went 4-0 on the home court of Trinity Western U to take top spot in the Border Battle.

A thrilling one point win over South Burnaby Metro Club in the final gave the Chilliwack Basketball Club U-15 girls their second straight tournament win.

On a roll after taking top spot at the Athelite Surrey Spring Classic in late May — the CBC’s first ever tourney win — the locals stormed into the Border Battle Tournament, held June 9-10 at the Trinity Western U in Langley.

The CBC squad went 4-0 in the tournament, starting with a 55-25 whomping of Excel U-16 followed by a 44-39 win over South Burnaby Metro. A 59-31 win over the Thompson Threat catapulted Chilliwack into the final where they dispatched SBMC once more by a 42-41 count.

The team was led again by Unity Christian’s Kylie Kampman, one of the best players in the province in her age group.

GW Graham’s Sydney Ma played well at point guard and Rosedale Traditional’s Chloe Mitchell held down the paint with great defense and rebounding. GW Graham’s Taylor Nicholson, Madison Zillwood, Kennedy Campbell, Shahad Albadran and Kemrey Warren provided key shots and energy throughout the tournament.

The team is now preparing to represent Chilliwack in the West Coast AAU National Championships, running July 11-16 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The team is looking for a major sponsor to help offset costs for the tournament, and any business that is interested in helping out can email coachkylegraves@gmail.com
