The Chilliwack Basketball Club’s U-15 girl’s team came out on top in the Athelite Surrey Spring Classic, which was held May 25-27 in three locations.
Games were played at Surrey’s BC Prep Academy, Tamanawis secondary and Panorama Ridge secondary.
The Chilliwackians went a perfect 4-0, with two wins in group play followed by two playoff victories. The locals started with a one-sided 52-16 thumping of Force Basketball (Surrey) followed by a 45-39 defeat of the Split Second U-14 Cobras (Vancouver).
The girls punched their ticket to the tourament final with a 43-32 win over 3D Basketball’s U-15 entry, and capped off the weekend by downing the Athlelite U-15 Selects by a 46-35 score to capture the crown.
“It was our first ever tournament championship for the Chilliwack Basketball Club,” said coach Kyle Graves. “It was great to see the girls representing Chilliwack in the Lower Mainland.”
Unity Christian’s Kylie Kampman led the team in scoring. GW Graham’s Sydney Ma hit clutch shots, with Kemrey Warren (GWG), Taylor Nicholson (GWG) and Madison Zillwood (GWG) chipping in important baskets at key times Rosedale Traditional’s Chloe Mitchell led the team in rebounding with Kailea Fuller (Rosedale) playing lock down defence.
