Harrison Blaisdell and Team Canada West beat the Czech Republic 3-1 Sunday afternoon to secure bronze at the World Junior A Hockey Challenge.
Blaisell, the Chillwack Chiefs forward, was held off the scoresheet in this one, but BCHLers played a big role in the win.
Langley Rivermen forward Ethan Leyh scored a goal.
Prince George Spruce Kings defenceman Layton Ahac posted two assists and Victoria Grizzlies star Alex Newhook and Penticton Vees forward David Silye both had helpers.
Dylan Holloway of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Okotoks Oilers scored two for Team Canada West.
Goaltender Matthew Radomsky of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Steinbach Pistons made 46 saves.
Team Canada West finished the tournament with an overall record of 3-3.
They went 2-2 in the preliminary round with wins over the United States (2-1 in a shootout) and Team Canada East (6-1). They lost to Russia (3-0) and the Czechs (5-4 in a shootout).
They were knocked out of gold medal contention by the United States, which beat them 3-2 in a Saturday semi-final.
The U-S went on to capture gold with a 2-0 win over the Russians.
All games were played in Bonnyville, Alberta.
Blaisdell posted four goals, one assist and two penalty minutes through six games.
