Chilliwack Chiefs summer hockey camps back on the schedule

Chilliwack Chiefs summer hockey camps back on the schedule

The BCHL club has announced a handful of camps that will run at the Chilliwack Coliseum

While some offerings have become COVID-19 casualties, the Chilliwack Chiefs still have six summer camps on the menu.

Following viaSport B.C. guidelines, the junior A club returns to the ice in July with two Kim Marfleet Elite Skating Camps, running July 13-17 and July 27-31.

Brad Rihela, the director of Chiefs programming, said the organization will take safety measures very seriously.

Camp participants will be sent a copy of the COVID-19 safety plan when they register and will sign an agreement before hitting the ice. Anyone not following the rules will be asked to leave.

“While we are all excited to get back on the ice and resume activity, it is of the utmost importance that we abide by all rules and regulations to ensure that we are doing our part to keep our community and province safe during these challenging times,” Rihela said.

All camps will be strictly non-contact with a focus on individual skill development.

The Chiefs will hold their Prospects Identification Skill Development Camp July 24-26 for players born between 2003 and 2006.

A Hockey Basics Camp for players in H1/H2 runs Aug. 4-7.

The Chiefs Learn to Skate camp runs Aug. 10-14 and the Rep-Prep Camp runs Aug. 17-21. The final confirmed offering is the Chilliwack Chiefs/Fraser Valley Thunderbirds Camp running Aug. 17-21, although Rihela notes the organization is working to add two or three more programs.

“We will be notifying the public of additional skill development camps with Chiefs skill development coach Clayton Krahn in short order,” Rihela said. “We are also in the process of potentially putting together goaltender specific development options in both July and August.”
