Chilliwack Chiefs trade for Salmon Arm Silverbacks defenceman

Max Wutzke is coming to the Chiefs to bolster the blueline, acquired for future considerations.

The Chilliwack Chiefs have added depth on the blueline, acquiring Max Wutzke from the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in exchange for future considerations.

The 19 year old Calgary native is in his third BCHL season but has played just five games for Salmon Arm this season.

The five-foot-11 and 190 pounder has no points and 10 penalty minutes this season after collecting one goal, 10 points and 48 PIMs in 51 games last year.

“Max is a hard working player who can cover a lot of ice with his skating ability,” said Chilliwack head coach and general manager Brian Maloney. “He’s a kid who rarely gets out-worked, which will fit nicely into our team concept.”

The Chiefs had been running with just six defenceman.

“As a staff, we felt we needed to add another D-man,” Maloney noted. “If we want to be a team that goes deep in the playoffs, we will need more depth.”
