Chilliwack Jets defender Campbell Ens commits to Briercrest Clippers

The junior B blueliner will make the next-level leap with a team based in Caronport, Saskatchewan

Considering they haven’t played many games, the junior B Chilliwack Jets are doing a fine job sending players up to the next level.

Lucas Bourdon and Bradyn Melnyk have been moved up to junior A hockey, the BCHL’s Chilliwack Chiefs and Merritt Centennials respectively.

Another player will be doing that shortly, with an announcement to come later this week, and now, a Jet has secured a college commitment.

Campbell Ens will be heading to Saskatchewan to play for Briercrest College. Located in Caronport. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Ens, who hails from Carman, Manitoba. The 19-year-old wore an A for the Jets in early-season action, before COVID shut down the Pacific Junior Hockey League.

The defenceman appeared in six games.

“Campbell was a great kid to have around the team. He was a leader and a calming influence around the guys during a tough season,” said Jets hockey boss Clayton Robinson. “We wish him all the best at Briercrest next season.”

The team he’ll be joining has competed in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) since 1998.

Briercrest is the only non-Alberta entry in the ACAC. Teams in the league include the Augustana Vikings, Concordia Thunder, MacEwan Griffins, NAIT Ooks, Portage Voyageurs, Red Deer Kings and SAIT Trojans.

The last time games were played, in 2019-20, the Clippers finished seventh in the eight-team league with a 5-18-2 record.

“This is what we strive for in our program is to move players on to the next level, whether it be college hockey or junior A,” Robinson said.
