Softball BC has named the athletes who will represent Team B.C. men’s softball at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, with three locals in the mix.
Isaac Goodwill (Chilliwack), Santana McKay (Chilliwack) and Brendon Donegan (Agassiz) fought their way through three identification camps.
Fifty athletes were in contention, with the camps held in Surrey and Prince George.
Donegan has previous Canada Games experience, helping Team B.C. win bronze at the 2011 Western Canada Summer Games. Head coach Kevin Weir and Surrey native Josh Anderson were also part of that group.
“We are confident the final group, selected by Kevin Weir and his staff, will be strong contenders at the Canada Summer Games,” said Softball B.C. president Jake DeWitt. “By working closely with the group representing B.C. at the NAIG, we expect the team to challenge for top results in Winnipeg.”
NAIG is the North American Indigenous Games, and Chilliwack’s Goodwill will compete in that tournament before joining the Canada Games squad.
The 2017 North American Indigenous Games run July 16-23 in Toronto.
