Another big weekend for Deanna Tuchscherer helped UFV’s women’s basketball team to a pair of road wins over the Mount Royal Cougars in Calgary.
Tuchscherer had 22 points and five assists Friday night as her Cascades whomped the Royals 83-57. Saturday’s rematch was a lot tighter as UFV squeaked out a 69-63 win, with Tuchscherer counting 16 points.
The GW Graham grad is quickly emerging as a second option behind UFV scoring leader Taylor Claggett.
“Taylor’s really had a good year, and has led our team in a lot of ways,” head coach Al Tuchscherer said. “And then Deanna is just playing off of her, using the tools she has to support Taylor and free her up a little bit. The two of them are pretty hard to guard. They’re both pretty unique players – not your conventional post players. They’re a tough match-up for most teams.”
Claggett, Tuchscherer and company have powered UFV to a 12-4 record in Canada West play so far this season, which puts them in fifth place behing Saskatchewan (15-1), Calgary (15-1), Alberta (14-2) and UBC (14-4).
The Cascades are on the road again this weekend, heading to Kamloops to face the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in a Friday/Saturday set.
