Chilliwack’s Ethan Bowen earns CJHL Prospects Game selection

Bowen will hit the ice at the Dave Andreychuk Arena in Hamilton, Ontario for the showcase game.

Chilliwack Chief Ethan Bowen has extra motivation as he rehabs from a broken hand.

The 17 year old has just been named to the Team West roster for the 15th-annual CJHL Prospects Game that takes place Jan. 14 in Hamilton, Ont.

Team West will take on Team East in the showcase game for players who are eligible for this June’s National Hockey League entry draft.

Bowen is among the top 40 CJHL prospects according to the NHL’s Central Scouting.

He’s among eight BCHLers chosen to play in the CJHL Top Prospects Game. Though he’s been sidelined since Nov. 28, the Chilliwack product is still third in Chiefs scoring with 26 points (including nine goals) in 28 games.

“We are extremely proud that Ethan has earned this opportunity,” said Chiefs head coach and general manager Brian Maloney. “He is a player that has put a lot of hard work into growing his game, and we look forward to welcoming him back to our lineup in short order as he recovers from injury.”

Eight different BCHL clubs are represented as the westernmost junior A circuit provides nearly half of the Team West roster.

Alberni Valley is sending goaltender Jackson Glassford.

Langley’s Ryan Helliwell and Vernon’s Trey Taylor will play defence while Bowen is joined up front by Nanaimo’s Kyler Kovich, Salmon Arm’s Luke Mylymok, Penticton’s Danny Weight and Cowichan Valley’s Luke Wilson.

“We extend our sincere congratulations to all of those players who have earned their selection to compete in the 2020 CJHL Prospects Game in Hamilton,” said CJHL President Brent Ladds.

Since the inaugural game in 2005-06, Team West has won nine of the 14 meetings.

Selected skaters get to play in front of talent evaluators from the NHL, CHL, NCAA and U-Sports.
