Chilliwack’s Michaela Read has enjoyed a successful sophomore season with the Lindenwood Lynx women’s hockey club and will get a chance to play for a national title later this month.
The Lynx have qualified for the American Collegiate Hockey Association Div-1 National Championships, which will take place March 27-31 at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Frisco, Texas.
Read’s team is ranked third heading into the tournament, and Read is a big reason why.
The forward collected 10 goals and 21 points in 26 games and served as an alternate captain for the Lynx.
The GW Graham grad scored two goals in the regular season finale, drawing glowing reviews from coach Kat Hannah.
“”We didn’t have a full squad and our leaders Ashley Dietmeier, Lindsay Gillis and Read did a phenomenal job of leading us both on the ice and in the locker room,” she said. “Read had her best weekend of the season. She’s heating up at exactly the right time.”
The Lynx finished fifth in the Western Women’s Collegiate Hockey League standings with a 19-4-3 record.
But, factoring in games played, their .788 win percentage was third best behind Liberty University and Adrian College. Those two teams met in last year’s national final, with Liberty’s flames winning 2-1.
Read’s Lynx are only in their fifth year of existence, but this will be their fourth trip to the ACHA nationals.
They went 1-2 in their first appearance in 2016 and advanced to the quarterfinal round in 2017. They went 0-2 in last year’s tournament with 2-1 and 8-2 losses to the Miami (Ohio) University RedHawks.
