Fraser Heights Secondary graduate A Ram Choi is teeing it up at the 2012 CN Canadian Women’s Open in Coquitlam.
The sophomore at Portland State University birdied five of the first 10 holes on her way to a two-under par round of 70 at Monday’s Open Qualifier at the Morgan Creek Golf Course in South Surrey.
Only four of the 27 players in the qualifier made the cut for the Canadian Open. Choi tied with Erynne Lee of Silverdale, Washington and Maiya Tanaka of San Diego at the top of the leaderboard.
Emily Talley of Napa, California earned the fourth qualifier spot in a playoff, defeating Brit Hayes of Montana and Katy Harris of Texas after the trio shot 1-under par 71 through 18 holes.
Choi is the 15th Canadian to qualify for the Canadian Women’s Open. She tees off today at 1:28 p.m. with Stacy Prammanasudh and Gerina Piller. The group will play the second round tomorrow, starting at 7:33 a.m.
