Christmas 3on3 tournament finished in dramatic fashion

Players took part in the 12th Annual Christmas Madness 3-on-3 Hockey tournament with the puck having dropped on Dec. 22.

“It was a great turnout for this year’s Canlan’s 12th annual Christmas Madness 3-on-3 tournament,” said Laura Albert, the organizer of the event. “We had six teams register; consisting of the Iceoholices, Morningwood, Milers, Canim Lakers, Ugly Muggers and Rack Attack.”

The Iceoholics won the championship in dramatic fashion after scoring three goals to beat Morningwood 8-7 after being down 7-5 with only little over four minutes left in play.

“The third period was fast and exciting to see Morningwood lead 7-5 with 4:15 left but Iceoholics quickly came back with an additional three goals to win the game 8-7 to take the championship.”

The Ugly Muggers and Canim Lakers were the other semi-finalists.

The tourney did not have a beer garden this year but did have a concessions stand.

Laura Albert, the organizer of the tournament, had been hoping to add a 40 plus division but that didn’t turn out, due to people leaving for the holidays and other commitments.

Ahead of the tournament, Albert said it wasn’t just men participating.

“We have one all-female team registered actually. They did it for the first time last year and they had such a good time last year they decided to register their team again.”
