Chu Chua resident Earl Celesta reports a number of the community’s youth participated this past season with the Sun Peaks First Nation Snowboard Team  They rode with the group every Saturday from December through April of this year.

The Chu Chua kids who participated were: Cy Celesta, Richard Celesta, Darryl Jules, Asia Ball, James Celesta, Leilani Celesta, Jared Fortier, Taylor Joseph, Nicole Joseph, Raine Celesta, Mason Cahoose and Shay Baker.

“We had two races this year and did very well,” reports Earl Celesta “Darryl and Richard went to Big White and made Top 5.  It was a very good season for them.

”The season was a good time for all the kisd.  We had a total of 40 on the team this year, with 10 coaches from Sun Peaks”

Celesta also tells that 10 kids from Chu Chua made up a group of 12 who travelled the last day of the season from Sun Peaks  to Mike Wiegele’s Heli-Ski to snowboard.

“Mike himself had a couple of rides on Saddle Mountain with them,” said Celesta, “Overall it was a good season. All these kids worked hard to help out with costs and showing up on time. Parents helped drive them every Saturday, and helped having them ready to go.”

The young Chu Chua riders ranged from beginner to advanced snowboard riders.
