Qualifying game: Jenean Siemens and her rink made it to the finals of the BC Winter Games regional qualifiers, but lost to the Brown rink from Kamloops.

The Brendan Cliff team from Armstrong, the Amy Edwards team from Vernon and the Corryn Brown team from Kamloops teams qualified for the BC Winter Games at the zone 2 Juvenile curling playdowns held in Salmon Arm Jan. 7 and 8. The BC Winter Games run Feb. 23 to 26 in Vernon.

Cliff’s rink of Brendan Chapple, Deven Schmidt, Matthew Young and fifth Derek King of Salmon Arm was the lone boys qualifier, defeating the Thomas Love rink of Vernon in the final.  King was called in to play during the competition, giving Brendan Chapple a much-needed breather as he played the competition with a broken arm.

Edward’s rink of Shayna Doll, Sydney Hofer and Kylie Tokairin qualified out of the A side defeating Corryn Brown and Salmon Arm’s Jenean Siemens.

Brown’s highly touted rink of Erin Pincott, Samantha Fischer and Sydney Fraser qualified on the B side defeating Siemens in the final. Brown is the current reigning Canada Winter Games Champion.

Siemens’ rink of Erin Huitema, Sarah Huitema, Jesse Biddlecombe and fifth Emma Denty was the tough-luck team of the event, playing well but falling in both the A and B finals.

The event featured four rinks of up-and-comers from the Magnum Intercity League including Jim Cotter’s stars of the future – three 11-year-olds with Cotter’s daughter, Jaelyne, skipping.
