Fans in Powell River got to see some overtime hockey, but fans in Nanaimo will get to see something even better – the next game in the series.
The Nanaimo Clippers defeated the Powell River Kings by a 2-1 score in overtime Tuesday at Powell River’s Hap Parker Arena, as Preston Brodziak scored three and a half minutes into the first overtime frame.
The Kings’ Ethan Kimball had opened the scoring with a first-period goal, then the Clippers’ David Silye tied it midway through the second.
Clips goalie Taz Burman stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced to earn the win, while the Kings’ Matteo Paler-Chow made 33 saves in defeat.
The night before, it was the Kings who edged the Clippers 3-2 in overtime as Ben Berard, with his second goal of the game, finished off a passing play midway through the first OT frame.
Cal Babych and Silye scored for Nanaimo and Josh Coblenz had Powell River’s other goal. Paler-Chow made 28 saves and Burman stopped 29 shots.
GAME ON … The Clippers and Kings play Game 5 on Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
