Club skiers compete at Hemlock GS races

Abbotsford’s Cherish Peters took home a medal for most improved female skier after competing in her first giant slalom (GS) race at Hemlock Valley Resort.

Peters has been a Hemlock Ski Club member for two years and ran two clean GS races Jan. 15 when there finally was a reprieve in the weather, after the mountain had been pounded by 135 mm of rain in 48 hours.

“The Hemlock course workers were in full force this past weekend, battling the elements to make sure that the scheduled races would proceed,” stated Peter Liljedahl, Hemlock Ski Club president.

Three Hemlock K1 members participated in the GS races and Kelsey Voss of Port Moody had the best finish for the team when she placed 23rd out of 41 skiers in the second girls K1 GS race. Accompanying Voss and Peters on the K1 ski team was Coquitlam’s Jason Forster who ran his first GS race.
