Coach calls out junior Timbermen

Nanaimo’s B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League club lost 10-9 to the Delta Islanders on Sunday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

The Nanaimo Timbermen junior A lacrosse team isn’t finding a way to win any game.

The city’s B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League club lost 10-9 to the Delta Islanders on Sunday at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

The game was tied 7-7 going into the third, the T-men got down a couple, tied it up, and then surrendered a go-ahead goal with three and a half minutes left.

“It’s just getting repetitive,” said Brad Dougan, the team’s coach. “Players have got to start doing it themselves. They’ve got to want it more.”

The coach said some intermediate call-ups were his hardest-working players at times.

“I find my veteran guys, they’re going and hiding on the bench and telling me they’re tired. They’re not tired.”

Brett Hawrys led the T-men with a hat trick and Brett Fleming, Andrew Miller, Mitch Parker, Owen Barker, Tyson Roe and Cody Clark were the other scorers. Pete Dubenski made 32 saves as his team outshot the opposition 46-42.

GAME ON … The junior Timbermen (1-7) host the New Westminster Salmonbellies (6-4) on Saturday (June 8) at 5 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
