A pair of Coastal FC boys teams have a banner to add to their respective collections – not to mention berths in provincial championships this summer.
Last weekend, Coastal’s U13 and U18 boys soccer squads won their respective Coastal Cup ‘B’ final contests – the U13s edged the Central City Breakers 4-3, while the U18 squad also defeated their Central City rivals, 2-1.
Both teams advance to provincials in July – the U13s will travel to 100 Mile House, while the U18s will go to Penticton.
In the U13 contest, Coastal controlled much of the play early in the game, and though the Breakers made a push to tie the game in the second half, the South Surrey club held on for the win.
For the U18 team, a trip to Phoenix in February – where they finished second in a tournament that featured teams from Arizona, Illinois and Colorado – proved to be what galvanized the team for its Coastal Cup run.
Experience also played a role in the team’s successful year – most members of the side have played together since the U6 level.
