The Fall Frisbee Funanza introduces a new sport to the community this Saturday on the south side.
Disc golf is a fun and inexpensive activity that the whole family can participate in.
Last year, Malcolm Graham, who had designed a disc golf course before and also ompeted and won in national competitions, presented the idea to city council.
Councillors indicated they were unfamiliar with the sport, and Graham described how the purpose is to deposit a disc in a basket the fastest for each hole.
He said that Smithers and many other small towns have disc golf courses and he spoke of the loyal and growing interest in the sport.
He also explained the course would not require altering the park.
Everyone is invited to celebrate this newly established course from 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 4 at Tetrault park, directly across from the hospital beside the baseball diamond.
Throw some discs or play the 9-hole course. Snacks and drinks provided.
