The ski team capped a successful first year with a second place finish at provincials in Smithers.
“It was a huge success for our first time,” team coach Scott Zacharias said.
Scores were taken from the highest four skiers on the teams and aggregated to come up with a final score.
The boys’ team consisted of Levi Lawlor, Brody Lawlor, Greg Russel and Chris McGauley, who posted a high enough combined score to garner them the silver medal.
Chris McGauley was also able to take home a bronze medal in an individual category as well.
“I was pretty upset after the giant slalom and I wasn’t happy until I put my effort into getting a medal on the snowboard cross,” he said.
Landon McGauley competed as a sit-skier, taking a gold medal for his combined overall score in both the giant slalom and the ski-cross.
Levi Lawlor was able to break into the top ten in the giant slalom for the team.
Hailey Doucette was the lone female to accompany the team to provincials.
“She did very, very well for a grade eight student,” teacher sponsor, Mark Forsyth said.
This being the first year, the team is looking forward to moving a head come next season.
“Next year the plan is to expand the team. It’s a bit of a numbers game: the more you have the better off you are,” Zacharias said.
“We didn’t know what to expect going into it this year, but now we know so we can help promote it and advertise it.”
