A Courtenay gym is supporting a different charity each week via stay-at-home, virtual workouts on Sunday mornings.
Wild + United Athletics started its by-donation karma class/workout on March 16. No gear is required for the full body workouts.
“We made our first big push towards a specific charity last weekend when we raised over $300 for the Lush Valley Food Action Society,” gym founder/coach Morgan Klieber said. “We had 26 people last Sunday and can take an unlimited number given that we are using Zoom rather than a physical space.”
Some of the participants have zoomed in from overseas.
“We make sure to program as much body weight as possible so people don’t need to have equipment at home. We also program scaleable movements to make sure that there are options for folks of all levels.”
The workout on Sunday, May 3 will benefit the Comox Valley Food Bank. The following Sunday is Mother’s Day, so the focus will be the Comox Valley Transition Society.
“We have a list of local charity groups that we’re planning to work our way through and folks can donate to the ones that they feel strongly about when it comes up,” Klieber said. “It gives us a chance to spotlight a group and open up our business to the public on a specific day each week.”
This Sunday, Jen Walker will cover the class for Klieber. Class starts at 9 a.m.
