Courtenay school wins opener at junior boys basketball zone tourney

The Junior Boys North Zone Basketball Championships are underway at Isfeld Secondary in Courtenay.

The Junior Boys North Zone Basketball Championships are underway at Isfeld Secondary in Courtenay.

The host Isfeld Ice defeated the Highland Raiders of Comox in the opening game of the seven-team tournament. Isfeld is the number two seed and Highland is ranked number seven.

The Vanier Towhees are the top-ranked team. Timberline of Campbell River is number three, Brooks Secondary of Powell River is number four, Alberni is number five and Carihi number six.

Zones wrap up Saturday afternoon. The top four teams qualify for the North Island tournament, Feb. 7-8 at Nanaimo District Secondary.
