Abigail Rigsby of Courtenay captured the BC Juvenile Girls golf championship today (Aug. 20) at Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club in Vernon.
A sparkling final round of six-under 65 on Thursday gave her a three-shot win over second-round leader Hannah Lee of Surrey, who shot a one-over 72 on Thursday to finish at 210. Rigsby, who golfs at Crown Isle, trailed Lee by four strokes going into the final round but fired a bogey-free round that included six birdies (four on the back nine) to take the victory. Rigsby went 72-70-65 while Lee carded rounds of 68-70-72.
Bowser’s Megan Ratcliffe (Pheasant Glen) finished 11th at (+12) 225 in the Juvenile Girls event.
Ratcliffe and Rigsby teamed up to finish third in the best ball competition. They went 66-64-64 to finish three shots back of AJ Ewart and Khan Lee and just one back of runners-up Keaton Gudz and Tristan Mandur.
In the Juvenile Boys event, Kolten Almgren of Courtenay (Crown Isle) finished in a two-way tie for 36th place at +19 232 (75-81-76) while Victor Choi of Comox (Crown Isle) finished in a two-way tie for 49th at +27 240 (77-81-82).
