As the Cowichan Valley Capitals continue to wait on word about the delayed 2020-21 B.C. Hockey League season, they are still busy recruiting players for 2021-22.
As of Wednesday morning, no decision had been made about playing a brief season to make up for the games lost to COVID-19 precautions this year, but teams are planning to play next year either way, and the Caps have added three prospects to their stable in the last week.
Luke Haymes is a 2003-born forward from Ottawa, who is with Ridley College in Ontario’s Conference of Independent Schools this season. Although the school hasn’t played any games this year, Haymes posted 12 goals and 19 assists in 29 games last season. The 6-foot-1, 176-pounder was on the roster of the junior A Nepean Raiders for scrimmages earlier this season but didn’t see any game action.
Sebastian Hamming is a 2003-born defenceman from Edmonton, playing this season with St. George’s School in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League’s U18 Prep division. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound blueliner has one goal in four games this year, and compiled six goals and 11 helpers in 33 games last season.
Chase Ramsay is another 2003-born defenceman, hailing from Granite Springs, New York. He is the captain of the prep team at Avon Old Farms School in Connecticut this season. Although Avon Old Farms hasn’t played this season, the six-foot, 181-pound Ramsay also got into seven games with the U18 AAA Mid Fairfield Rangers, posting two goals and three assists.
