Two Cowichan Valley Capitals players have committed to NCAA Div. 1 hockey programs in recent weeks, bringing the total number of committed players on the team this season to seven.
Forward Dan McIntyre declared his intentions to play for the Cornell University Big Red once his junior hockey career comes to an end, while defenceman Tyrell Boucher committed to the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves for the 2020-21 season.
McIntyre, 19, is in his second season with the Caps, and has posted nine points (5G, 4A) in 13 games so far, including a hat trick in the home opener, while missing several games due to injuries and suspensions. McIntyre had 13 points (5G, 8A) in 54 games last season, his first year in the B.C. Hockey League. The Caps acquired the Almonte, Ontario native from the Kanata Lasers of the Central Canadian Hockey League during the 2018 offseason.
Boucher, 20, is in his first season with the Caps, and is among the BCHL’s top offensive defencemen with 21 points (2G, 19A) in 25 games. He joined the Caps last summer in a deal that sent blueliners Doug Scott and Spencer Hora to the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
Other Capitals players currently committed to NCAA schools include defencemen Nolan Barrett (Merrimack) and Dimitri Mikrogiannakis (Rochester Institute of Technology), and forwards Will Arquiett (St. Lawrence), Matt Crasa (Sacred Heart) and Primo Self (Miami-Ohio).
