Cowichan Cougars draw even with Gorge

Day shines in goal in 1-1 tie

Sara Day was outstanding in net once again as the Cowichan Cougars played to a 1-1 draw with Gorge in a Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association O30A tilt at Hampton Park on Sunday.

Cowichan took a 1-0 lead in the match on a goal by Jenna Waddy, set up by Jen Mann, and it wasn’t until the last five minutes of the game that Gorge was able to solve Day from a goal-mouth scramble and even the score.

The ref had a difficult time making calls and controlling the game, observers reported, and Gorge lost a player to a red card in the second half.

Courtenay McGeachy stepped in to coach the Cougars in the absence of head coach Darian Achurch, who was proud to hear of the team’s performance against a difficult opponent.

The Cougars will play their third straight road game this Friday against Vic West at Finlayson Park. Cowichan’s next home game against the Prospect Lake Lakers on Oct. 13 has been postponed, so the team doesn’t have another date on the schedule until Oct. 27, when they are set to host Castaways United.
