Cowichan Div. 2 women out-paced in last match of 2018

Soccer team has second game of the weekend postponed by weather

Last weekend wasn’t as busy as anticipated for Cowichan’s Div. 2 women’s soccer team.

The team did play its scheduled home match on Friday night, but a Sunday afternoon road game against Vic West was postponed due to the weather.

Friday night’s match against PACE was actually a makeup game to replace one missed in October, and Cowichan ended up losing 3-0.

“It was a fast-paced game right from the start,” Cowichan coach Darbi Aitchison said. “We did well slowing the ball down and trying to play our own game as much as possible; they were a fast team so keeping them controlled was a big challenge and critical to managing them.”

Cowichan will be off until Jan. 11, when they host Prospect Lake at 7:30 p.m. Prospect have lost all 12 of their games this season. Cowichan is ninth out of 10 Div. 2 teams, one point back of eighth-place Fernwood but with a game in hand.

The Valley’s other entry in the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association, the Over 30A Cowichan Cougars, were supposed to play host to Prospect Lake at Evans Park last Sunday, but had that game postponed for weather reasons. The Cougars have a bye their first week back after Christmas, then visit Prospect on Jan. 18.
