Cowichan draws with Gorge United

Cowichan’s Div. 2 women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Gorge United at the Sherman Road turf on Friday night.

Cowichan got on the board first with a goal by Jamie Ashcroft from deep in the six-yard box. Gorge’s tying goal came in the second half.

Gorge United had beaten Cowichan 3-0 when the teams met at Hampton Turf in late September.

“We had a strong lineup at the game, with good passing and lots of work up the sidelines,” Cowichan coach Darbi Aitchison said. “Gorge’s defence came up strong, with few shots making it through. There were a few balls we could’ve beat them to, but overall it was a well played game on both sides; an exciting rematch from the beginning of the season.”

Cowichan will close out the 2018 portion of the season with two games this weekend. The team plays host to PACE at the Sherman Road turf on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and visits Vic West on Sunday afternoon.
