The Delta Islanders eliminated the Nanaimo Timbermen from the B.C. Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League playoffs over the weekend in a series that featured Cowichan Valley Lacrosse Association players on both sides and a stop at the Island Savings Centre.
The Islanders, who include brothers Brayden and Devyn Zunti, edged the T-Men, who include Nate Clark, Wade Mason and Kalum Lachance, two games to one in the first-round series.
The series started in Ladner last Wednesday, where the T-Men, who finished sixth in the regular-season standings, upended the Islanders 10-7. Mason scored a pair of goals for Nanaimo, while Devyn Zunti recorded an assist for Delta.
The teams squared off at the Island Savings Centre on Saturday, with the Islanders prevailing 10-8. Brayden Zunti scored one for Delta, and Devyn notched four helpers.
Back in Ladner on Sunday, the Islanders edged the T-Men 10-9, despite a goal for Nanaimo by Mason and an assist by Lachance.
The Islanders are now awaiting their opponent for the second round of the BCJT1LL playoffs.
Meanwhile, the junior A Timbermen opened their first-round playoff series against the Coquitlam Adanacs with a 7-5 victory on the road on Sunday. The junior A T-Men include Cowichan products Mat Jung, Colton Lidstone, Thomas Vaesen, James Taylor and Colin Jeffrey.
