Cowichan United put an end to their offensive struggles and played their best home game so far in the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association season when they played host to Prospect Lake last Friday night.
After being shut out in five of their previous eight games, Cowichan came out guns blazing on Friday, scoring three times in the first 20 minutes on their way to a 4-0 victory.
Cowichan pressed in the early going, putting the Lakers under immediate pressure. In the eighth minute, Seleana Jack fed the ball to Kate Collins 25 yards out, and Collins fired a shot into the top corner that the Lakers’ goalie had no chance to stop. The same duo connected again four minutes later when Collins redirected a corner kick by Jack from a scrum of players gathered in front of the net.
The third goal came when Hilary Fisher burst down the corner of the 18-yard box in the 19th minute and sent a sublime cross that Nicole Pugh tapped in. Pugh capped off the scoring in the second half when she took a pinpoint pass from Madison Thomas and fired a laser into the bottom corner from outside the 18.
Tiara Enger stopped all Prospect Lake scoring attempts for her second consecutive shutout and fifth of the year.
Cowichan will play at home again this weekend, hosting Gorge FC on the Sherman Road turf at noon on Sunday.
