Cowichan United opened the Div. 2 women’s soccer season with a 1-1 draw against Castaways FC at the Sherman Road turf last Friday night.
Brittany Brown drew first blood for Cowichan late in a tight first half, converting a 20-yard free kick in the 44th minute. The lead was short-lived as Castaways managed the equalizer just before the halftime whistle.
Tiara Enger was solid in Cowichan’s net, but her Castaways counterpart was equally good.
“Both teams had chances to win it late,” Cowichan coach Adam Paulson said. “But strong performances from both goalies meant that the points were split.”
United’s next game is set for this coming Sunday when they visit Vic West at École Victor Brodeur.
Cowichan’s other Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association entry, the over 30A Cougars, were scheduled to begin their season with a home game at Evans Park on Sunday, but the match was cancelled. The Cougars will be in action on the road this Friday when they visit Castaways at PISE.
