Pros at two Cowichan Valley courses golfed hundreds of holes on June 13 and 14 to raise funds through the Golfathon for ALS.
On June 13, Andrew Hajer, Jayme Young and Arthur Brown took to the links at Arbutus Ridge at 7 p.m. Just over 12 hours later, they called it a day, collectively golfing 300 holes for a total score of 1,293, including 44 birdies.
“We are very proud to be able to do our part to help fight this horrible disease,” Hajer said. “Our members and community really support us and the event every year. It’s a long, tiring day, but it’s all worth it.”
At the Cowichan Golf Club the next day, Norm Jackson and Gianperro (GP) Denomme started their day at 5:30 a.m. and went until 3 p.m., combining for 180 holes, including nine birdies. That wasn’t the end of the day for Denomme, who golfed an additional nine holes for the Walk 9 to End ALS tournament, which began at 3:30 p.m.

Jackson is the head pro at Cowichan. Denomme isn’t a pro, but has done a lot of fundraising for ALS since his dad died from the disease in 2006, when GP was 12 years old.
“To have young GP play with me is heartwarming,” Jackson said. “It was only 13 years ago that I played my first game with him, before his father passed away from ALS. To see GP and all of what he’s done… it’s just amazing to see youth doing good things and giving back to the community.”
