Cranbrook Outlaws compete hard in Alberta weekend

Pee Wees capture gold in High River, Tykes play in NLL game intermission

The Cranbrook Outlaws minor box lacrosse program had a successful weekend in High River and Calgary where their teams were competing in tournaments.

The Tyke, Novice and Pee Wee teams played in High River and all took advantage of the opportunity to grow as players and teammates.

The Pee Wee team provided the highlight of the weekend picking up a loss, a tie, and two wins before winning the ‘B’ division and bringing home a gold medal.

The Tykes meanwhile lost all four of their games but “played well and really came together as a team.”

According to a representative from the program “there was a lot of fun and learning to take forward for our younger players.”

The Novice team fared better with two losses and two wins before falling short in the bronze medal game and finishing in fourth place.

In Calgary, the Bantam and Midget Outlaws played in an ‘A’ tournament. Although they did not pick up any wins, it was “an opportunity for the teams to experience the pace and skill the are all aiming to learn and play.”

Another highlight of the weekend was the opportunity to attend a National Lacrosse League game between the Calgary Roughnecks and Saskatchewan Rush. The Outlaw Tykes and Little Tykes played the Calgary Hornets in the half time break.

The Outlaws next scheduled tournament is their home “Kootenay Shootout” in Cranbrook from May 12 to 14.
