The Creston Chiefs bantam rep Tier 3 hockey team participated in the Tier 3 bantam provincial hockey championship from March 18-23.
The games were fast paced and highly competitive with the top 11 teams in the province participating. The Chiefs played five games against Castlegar, Whitehorse, Whistler, Quesnel and Burnaby during the weeklong tournament.
The Chiefs played the tournament with 11 players while most other teams had 17 players. The boys played courageously and gave 100 per cent effort as a team, while the coaches did a great job managing the short bench. All was done that could be done to match up well with the other teams and the boys gave every effort in their play.
In the end, the Chiefs had a great come-from-behind victory over Whitehorse and came away with a hard-fought 4-2 win. They were outmatched by Whistler and Quesnel, which both made it to the four-team playoff, with Quesnel eventually winning the provincial tournament. The Chiefs’ last game against Burnaby Winter Club resulted in a closely matched 3-2 loss.
The Creston Valley Minor Hockey Association extends its appreciation to the parents who cheered on and supported their Creston Chiefs not only at this tournament but all season long. It was a good week and a great experience was had by all. It was made possible with the support of many businesses and organizations within our wonderful community.
The CVWMA also appreciates the businesses and organizations that supported the Creston Chiefs with sponsorships and donations, and will be sending out a thank you advertisement in the next few weeks naming all those who supported the organization, along with the winners of the raffle, which will be drawn April 13.
