This Saturday, Nov. 2, the B.C. High School Provincial Cross Country Championships will be held at Aldergrove Regional Park.
This event brings together over 1,000 of the finest high school cross country runners across the province. Runners will be vying for both individual and team honours.
In addition to the traditional senior championships, a junior championship has been added. B.C. High School Sports are moving towards offering junior championships in all the high school sports. Cross country running and track and field are two of the pilot sports.
A junior championship greatly increases the opportunity for high school athletes to compete at the provincial level and encourages them to continue sport throughout their high school career.
The Fraser Valley Cross Country Commission (Commissioner Greg Worsely of Elgin Park, Surrey School District) is the host for this event along with the B.C. High School Cross Country Commission (Commissioner Nancy Champagne of Fleetwood Park, Surrey School District).
The Fraser Valley is home to a large number of the province’s finest cross country athletes. These athletes are expected to perform very well at the championship event.
The Provincial Championships on Nov. 2 begins at 10 a.m. with the Junior Girls (4.3km), 10:45 a.m. with the Junior Boys (4.3km), 11:30 a.m. with the Senior Girls (4.3km), and closes at 12:15 p.m. with the Senior Boys (6.3km).
