Oak Bay’s second-seed Castaway Wanderers women’s team is in semi-final play Saturday, taking on third-place Cowichan at Windsor Park.
Kick-off is at 11:30 a.m. and the winner will face the Westshore Velox women next Saturday, Oct. 31 at Westshore.
In men’s rugby, the University of Victoria squad visits Oak Bay’s Castaway Wanderers at Windsor Park Saturday, with play getting underway at 2:45 p.m.
The rest of the Vikes also have a busy weekend ahead.
While the Vikes men’s basketball team is away, the women’s team starts pre-season exhibition play Friday, Oct. 23.
The women face off against the University of Western Ontario at 5 p.m. at the CARSA performance centre.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Vikes women host Ryerson University at 11 a.m., also at CARSA.
Vikes soccer keeps going strong this week with the men’s team hitting the Centennial Stadium pitch Friday, Oct. 23 against Fraser Valley at 7:15 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, the squad hosts Trinity Western at 7:15 p.m.
The Vikes women’s soccer team is also in action, going head-to-head against Trinity Western at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23 at Centennial Stadium., before hosting Fraser Valley at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Turning to baseball, for midget-age players wanting to take their game to the AAA or Junior Premier level, the Victoria Eagles are hosting a Midget AAA/Junior Premier Open Tryout at Lambrick Park Sunday, Oct. 25.

In high school sports, Oak Bay middle and high school runners will head to Beaver Lake for this week’s only cross country meet on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The first event begins at 3:30 p.m. before the senior boys finishing the day at 4:30 p.m.
Senior high school boys soccer takes to the pitch Tuesday, Oct. 27.
In Tier 1, St. Michaels University School hosts Royal Bay at 3:45 p.m. and Glenlyon Norfolk School visits Claremont secondary at 3:30 p.m.
In Tier 2, SMUS B visits Spectrum at 3:30 p.m. Play continues Thursday, Oct. 29, when Tier 1 play has GNS hosting St. Andrews at 3:45 p.m., and SMUS hosting Oak Bay at 3:45 p.m. In Tier 2, SMUS B visits Esquimalt at 3:45 p.m.
On the volleyball court, senior boys’ play Wednesday, Oct. 28 has Oak Bay at Lambrick Park, where they’ll take on the hosts, along with Reynolds and Claremont.
It’s a busy Saturday for Vancouver Island women’s field hockey, with Lynx 2 playing the Sailors at 8:30 a.m., the Flickers and Mariners at 12:30 p.m., and the Pirates and the Demons at 2 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., the Kestrels and the Renegades take to the UVic field, followed by Lynx 3 versus the Devils at 5 p.m. and the Patriots taking on Lynx 1 at 6:30 p.m.
In men’s field hockey play continues at the University of Victoria turf this Sunday, Oct. 25, with Oak Bay taking on the Mutineers at 8:30 a.m., before Rebels 2 plays the Tigers at 12 p.m., and Rebels 1 goes head-to-head against the Hawks at 2 p.m.
In Vancouver Island Junior Hockey action, the Victoria Cougars start the week on the road, heading to Comox Saturday and Kerry Park Sunday.
Returning home, the Cougars finish the week against the Peninsula Panthers with the puck dropping at Archie Browning Arena at 7 p.m.
