Nelson’s Merissa Dawson was on the ice for one of the biggest women’s hockey events in Canada last month.
Dawson, a fourth-year student who plays defence for the University of Calgary Dinos, played in front of just over 10,000 fans at the Crow Child Classic on Jan. 30.
The Dinos beat the Mount Royal University Cougars 4-1 at at the Calgary Flames’ Scotiabank Saddledome. The game set a record for attendance at a Dinos women’s hockey game.
Dawson has one goal and seven assists in 22 games this season.
